The Year Ahead…

“The year stands before us, like a chapter in a book waiting to be written.” – Melody Beattie
Well, we are approaching the end of this year. I’m sure that stirs up quite a few thoughts and emotions, as it does for me.
The month of December is typically depicted as “the most wonderful time of the year” as we are surrounded by holidays, celebrations and gifts and reflect on the past.
I like to use December to think about what I did well this year and what I aspire to do next year. I try not to fall into the trap of New Year’s resolutions…which can be daunting and often hard to achieve. I look at it as an appreciation of all good things that have come my way – the people I have met, the time I have spent with my family and the lessons I have learned.
I take those reflections and decide how I want to approach the year ahead. Sometimes it comes as a mantra I try to abide by, or a mindfulness to my surroundings. I just know that time is fleeting and you have to be the best you can be, as often as possible. It can be in the form of learning more professionally, ensuring you reach out regularly to your loved ones, making time for yourself or trying to grow spiritually.
Whatever it is you’ve been wanting to do, or accomplish – do it. Even if it means making mistakes, you will grow and learn from it.
Sometimes what feels like the end is often the beginning. As we look to the new year, try to hold on to what is good and appreciate the lessons. Let go of anything that has been holding you back and open your heart to what’s to come.
I wish you all a very happy holiday.
